History

THE SOUL OF OUR CUISINE - WONDERFUL SPICES

Naan Bread

Naan bread, a staple of Indian cuisine, is traditionally baked in a tandoor, a clay oven that can reach temperatures of up to 900°F. This unique cooking method gives naan its distinctive smoky flavor, airy texture, and characteristic blistered, charred spots, making it a delicious canvas for soaking up rich curries and sauces.

INDIAN SPICES

Indian spices are renowned for their incredible health benefits in addition to their rich flavors. For instance, turmeric, a staple in Indian cooking, contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Cumin aids digestion, and cardamom is known for its detoxifying properties. Together, these spices not only elevate dishes but also contribute to overall well-being, embodying the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

Slow Cooking

The Indian slow cooking process, often seen in dishes like biryanis, dals, and curries, offers a multitude of benefits that go beyond the delightful flavors it produces. By simmering ingredients gently over low heat, this method allows spices and herbs to fully infuse, enhancing the depth and complexity of the dish. The gradual cooking helps retain the nutritional value of vegetables and proteins, ensuring a healthier meal. Additionally, the slow cooking process tenderizes tougher cuts of meat, making them succulent and flavorful. This method also promotes mindful cooking, encouraging a connection with the food and an appreciation for the time-honored culinary traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Basmati Rice

Basmati rice, renowned for its unique aroma and long, slender grains, is a prized staple in many culinary traditions, especially in South Asia. Grown primarily in the fertile plains of India, this rice variety is celebrated for its distinct nutty flavor and slightly floral fragrance, which are attributed to the rich soils and climate conditions of the Himalayan foothills. When cooked, Basmati rice becomes light and fluffy, with each grain remaining separate, making it ideal for dishes such as biryanis, pilafs, and as a delicate accompaniment to a wide array of flavorful curries and stews. Its versatility and exquisite taste have made it a favorite among Mr. Naan’s clients.
